Environmental Response and Southern Environmental Technologies, Inc. are businesses wholly-owned by Maureen Handler. Ms. Handler has been in the environmental contracting business since 1986 and has nearly 30 years experience in the construction industry. She also has her DOT DBE certification and is a certified stormwater inspector.
Ms. Handler is a senior environmental engineer with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech. She has spent her career in the field excavating and cleaning up contaminated properties.
Besides concentrating on her business, Ms. Handler is very involved with non-profit organizations that deal with protecting the environment. The SERA Karst Task Force, (SKTF), is a non-profit organization of cave explorers that promotes ground water and cave protection and conservation.
Sewanee Mountain Grotto, in Sewanee, TN, is a local organization of cavers that is conservation oriented and participates actively with the SKTF. The SMG has adopted the Russell Cave National Monument Watershed and has spent the last three years removing 30 tons of debris from the watershed to restore the area. Ms. Handler has been an active caver since 1981.
