Chattanooga Creek has been called “the most polluted stream in the United States”. This phase of the Superfund clean-up involved removing and disposing of 100,000+ tons of coal tar contaminated sediments, lining the creek with bentonite to prevent infiltration of comtaminates from the groundwater and restoring the creek channel.
